CORVALLIS – Sergi Solans scored for the Beavers, but Oregon State fell to UC Davis 2-1 Sunday afternoon at Paul Lorenz Field.
Solans scored his first collegiate goal in his first start as a Beaver, finding the net in the 14th minute to give the Beavers an early lead. Fabian Straudi and Ellis Spikner both recorded assists, as Spikner brought his points total to a team-best seven on the season (2 goals, 3 assists).
UC Davis leveled the score late in the first half, and added a second with less than five minutes to play to claim the victory.
As a team, Oregon State out-shot UC Davis 16-12 and had a 10-6 advantage on corner kicks.
Solans wasted little time making his presence felt in his first collegiate start, heading one just wide of the post less than three minutes into the contest. The Spaniard put the Beavers in front in the 14th minute, finishing from close range after an impressive build-up from Spikner and Straudi down the left wing.
The Aggies responded by creating some scoring chances in the latter phases of the opening half. UC Davis was able to capitalize five minutes before the intermission, as Cason Goodman converted a left-footed volley at the back post.
The teams headed to the break level at one.
Oregon State came close to retaking the lead with half and hour remaining, as an Arnau Farnos cross narrowly missed a pair of Beavers sprinting into the six-yard box. Solans found himself in on goal in the 75th minute, but the UC Davis keeper was quick off his line to make the save.
The Aggies took the lead with under five minutes remaining. Dante Williams and Straudi both had scoring chances in the closing moments, but both were off target.
The Beavers will remain at home next Sunday for a matchup with San Diego State.
